I was throwing a (pretend) tantrum in the passenger seat on Saturday because I missed my dance class because I got us lost (don’t ask). After whining for a bit, I decided to take my pills and when I popped out the pill for the day, it rolled under the seat, so I whined some more.

m: Wahhhhhhhhhh, wahhhhh, wahhhhh.
j: Do you want me to pull over so we can find it?
m: NO. I’m just going to get pregnant. *POUT*
j: Maki, that’s NOT the best way to deal with a missing pill.

As if HE knows anything about birth control. Psh. Men.

And for the rest of the day, if I needed a reason for anything, I’d say to him, “Oh, it’s because I’m a little pregnant,” to which he once had the gall to reply, “I don’t think ‘pregnant’ is something you are ‘a little’ of.” As if he knows anything about being pregnant.

Unconscionable things people do on flights

1. Let their darlings squall/shriek/sprint down the aisles without reprimand for 80% of an 11-hour flight.
2. Shush them over and over even though it has no effect for 10% of the 11-hour flight.
3. Play movies on laptops without using headphones and using the speakers.
4. Spray perfumes/use heavily-scented creams.
5. Open the windows during designated “nighttime” hours. Yes, it’s still blue out there, dipshit.
6. Keep the overhead light on for the entirety of the 11 hour flight.
7. Eat foods that reek of body odor. (Eggs, etc)

I haven’t slept so little on a transpacific flight in years. I’m at Narita for another 45 minutes and then I have a 2.5 hour bus ride to my final destination because whatever the advertisements may lead one to believe, Narita is not in Tokyo. I’m a little aggravated right now. I hope for fuck’s sake that the bus ride is quiet and dark and odorless.

Silver lining: I’m now 500 pages into Game of Thrones, which I’ve had on my shelf forever. It requires a lot of attention, so I’ve been putting it off and it was nice to be able to digest a lot in one sitting. I’m seriously wishing I brought book two. *sad panda*

It’s Christmas!

Kind of.

Yesterday was everybody’s Friday and they’re all off for a long holiday weekend. But it was my Thursday. Or Wednesday, I guess. I’m working today and on Christmas because, well, lucky me, I work with animals and animals like to have sex willy-nilly and not on anybody else’s vacation schedule. Plus, I’m off for the next (almost) two weeks, so it seems fair enough.

Currently waiting for some results so I know how to proceed. It’s rather inconvenient timing for my benchwork — we’re pushingpushingpushing for results with a “beat it to death with a hammer until something magically falls into place” tactic. Nobody said science was always pretty. This trial-and-error thing takes time and cells are waiting and me taking off for vacation now isn’t ideal, so I’m trying to do as much as possible before I leave. Who knows, maybe Christmas miracles will happen for science. There’s sweet irony in that.

Coming up: More work, baking, Christmas dinner at John’s, flying out on the 26th. Hooray. It’s a sprint to the finish, per usual protocol.

Now if only my PCRs would work…

Yeah, yeah, I should’ve set up the PCRs overnight, but the boss went on vacation and while the cat’s away, the mice will play (or go home early). I set them up ASAP in the morning, but I can’t really make the thermal cyclers cycle any faster; after all, three minutes is three minutes is three minutes even if the machine is named Jesus.

And so, I have nothing to do for the rest of the day. Well, that’s not entirely true. I could be doing some menial labor and probably getting ahead on my work, but if I did that, I’d really have nothing to do tomorrow. I could go home since nobody really gives a damn around here about anybody else’s schedule (unless your slacking impinges on theirs), but I’d have to drive back up around 5 since J lives around here. Times like this (and during traffic), I reaaaaaaally wish I lived close to work.

Yawn.

Maybe I’ll go play Mario in my car. Whipping out the DS at the bench would be a bit much.

Well, to be honest, I wouldn’t rent out a room for people to “born the child” in, either. Talk about a mess. “Will you sign this birthing-child waiver? It’ll be a $750 deposit, thank you.”
